Bug Description

I'm installing Utopic to bare-metal via cobbler. In the /var/log/syslog I see:

"errors were encountered while processing: ifupdown procps"

I'm seeing this as well with cobbler installs. Here's the syslog from my system

Jul 29 10:51:04 debootstrap: Package ifupdown is not configured yet.
Jul 29 10:51:04 debootstrap:

So package "initscripts" was not configured yet. When props & ifupdown debootstrap configuration happens:

Jul 29 10:51:01 debootstrap: Setting up procps (1:3.3.9-1ubuntu5) ...
Jul 29 10:51:01 debootstrap: dpkg: procps: dependency problems, but configuring anyway as you requested:
Jul 29 10:51:01 debootstrap: procps depends on initscripts.
Jul 29 10:51:01 debootstrap:

At the end it does all work out fine though:
Jul 29 10:52:03 debootstrap: Setting up procps (1:3.3.9-1ubuntu5) ...
Jul 29 10:52:06 debootstrap: Setting up ifupdown (0.7.48.1ubuntu4) ...

I am guessing we have circular dependencies somewhere, which are broken and eventually fixed. This is also related to "init" metapackage, and it's desire for immediate configuration of upstart. This was not present in trusty.

The preseed used in the installation is:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~nuclearbob/ubuntu-test-cases/bootspeed-server-workaround/view/head:/preseed.cfg

And just for information, hitting 'Continue' on the warning dialog made the installation continue and complete.

I believe the situation will improve after https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/init-system-helpers/1.20ubuntu3 migrates to utopic-release, after alpha2 freeze block is lifted tomorrow.

Today's power test does not show any improvement but i see /pool/main/i/init-system-helpers/init-system-helpers_1.20ubuntu3_all.deb in the list of the server iso. (20140731)

Looking at the log:
https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/bootspeed-utopic-desktop-amd64-acer-veriton-01/58/artifact/acer-veriton-01-install.log/*view*/

init package is still installed, even though it shouldn't be any more. (It's not essential and priority optional now)

And initscripts package is not configured before procps & ifupdown are. We could add initscripts as pre-depends for procps & ifupdown, but that shouldn't be required as they have depends declared already.

Did another debootstrap, and there are no warnings from debootstrap with utopic now. The jenkins job looks like is failing to partition things?!

Yea, now there is a parted bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/parted/+bug/1352252

But I suppose this is happening before debootstrapping and therefore I could not verify if this debootstrap warning got fixed
