Bug Description

When I choose a keyboard layout in the gfxboot screen (install CD), the selection is not propagated to the d-i debconf keyboard chooser.

As commented in bug #35061, the /proc/cmdline contains the correct F3 keyboard choice.

Maybe related to this is bug #32940 (the language chosen with F2 is propagated, and determines keyboard setting, with no possibility of correcting it).

Here is syslog output from the installer, after choosing Norwegian keyboard in the boot menu, then English language and location Switzerland in the installer.

See also bug #32940, seems like the keyboard selection just quits or crashes.

What version of kbd-chooser is that (look in /var/lib/dpkg/status in the installer)? Looks like a bug I fixed a week or so ago.

kbd-chooser (1.23ubuntu18) dapper; urgency=low

  * Explicitly reset kbd-chooser/method on the occasions when we need to do
    so to avoid infinite loops, rather than forcibly resetting it nearly
    every time; fixes preseeding (closes: Malone #31661).
  * Fix segfault if localechooser hasn't been run yet.
