Bug Description

Using unity and unity-2d, I cannot see the battery indicator. It does not appear when the power cord is plugged in or unplugged. Notifications do appear when I change the cord.

There is a space in the indicator area, and I can use my keyboard to find an empty menu in that space, but this might be my missing bluetooth menu.

Let's postpone the gnome-power-manager indicator icon part of this until next week, when the gpm bits will be absorbed by gnome-settings-daemon. I'll handle the missing icon in the control-center shell for now.

ubuntu-mono provides the icons for the battery charge. We need to update the names there for whichever names the new gnome-settings-daemon power plugin uses, once that lands.

I have oneiric up-to-date (09.07 01:56AM) and I have no visible battery indicator.

$ apt-cache show gnome-icon-theme |grep Version
Version: 3.0.0-2ubuntu4

$ apt-cache show gnome-power-manager | grep Version
Version: 3.0.2-0ubuntu2

I'd guess this might all be related to libindicator6 vs libindicator3 in some way.

sudo apt-get install indicator-power should do it.

Whoops. I was about to say that this indicates (hah) a problem with the seed dependencies and that something needs to make sure this gets pulled in by default; but I see now that unity does recommend it, so it will be pulled in by default for clean upgrades.

This is clearly a conspiracy to cover up the fact that oneiric consumes 10% more power at idle than natty did! :-)

I have all packages up-to-date. I have a battery indicator but it does not update. It is red and not filled in as if my battery is completely discharged. This occurred when I upgraded the linux kernel to 3.0.0-7-generic using apt-get. My Dell Mini 10 v has been plugged in all day. Battery indicator was working prior to kernel upgrade. Verified good power source and AC adapter. AC adapter has an led indicating when power is on/applied.

mista@3bootmini:~$ sudo apt-get install indicator-power

I even removed indicator-power, rebooted. Battery indicator no longer displayed. Re-installed indicator-power. Red/unfilled battery indicator returned.

Missing for me too! I can't install it as it complains of being dependent on libindicator3 which will not be installed as it depends on gnome-panel, which will not be installed.

From a terminal, I just performed a sudo apt-get update and then a sudo apt-get upgrade. There were quite a few updates available. After the upgrade completed, I performed a sudo apt-get shutdown -r now from a terminal window. Once I logged back in, I now have a functioning battery indicator.

I am running a custom built 3.0.0-git17 kernel, because I need GMA500 staging driver to get a framebuffer for my GMA500 video card:

I don't know if these segfaults from my dmesg output are related:

I have an up to date install, I don't even have an indicator-battery package available, though I have the gnome power manager. When running via command line, I see similar output as some of the posters above (some gibberish about not finding a file). Interestingly enough, Battery-status works just fine ( http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/02/battery-applet-status-ubuntu/ ), though now I'm having trouble getting indicator applet to remove the power icon.

Occasionally I also get other images going "missing", e.g. the wireless icon.

Yay unity still being full of holes. ^^
