Missing firmware for DVB-T card Hauppage HVR-1110

Bug Description

Under Ubuntu Feisty Fawn, the DVB-T card Hauppage HVR-1110 is properly detected by the dvb drivers and recognized as card Hauppauge WinTV-HVR1110 DVB-T/Hybrid. The remote control functions properly, such as the scan tool, which makes it possible to find TV channels.

The problem is that one could not watch TV with the default configuration, because the firmware for this card is missing in the Ubuntu packages, under :
/lib/firmware/2.6.20-15-generic/

The firmware name is : dvb-fe-tda10046.fw

Note that copying this firmware under the proper directory solves the problem, but since the card is properly recognized by the system, it should function automatically, without having to copy this file.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description doesn't yet have enough information.
Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (please pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command 'uname -a' in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command 'dmesg > dmesg.log' and attach the resulting file 'dmesg.log' to this bug report.
3. Please run the command 'sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log' and attach the resulting file 'lspci-vvnn.log' to this bug report.
For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks in advance!

I have the exact same symptoms with a Terratec Cinergy 1200 DVB-T under both Feisty and Gutsy. It is properly recognized and everything, but fails to tune to any channel when dvb-fe-tda10046.fw is missing.

Yes, but someone has to add the missing firmware to it :-)

I just noticed the tda1004x firmwares are not downloadable from linuxtv.org anymore for whatever reason. As an ex-Mandriva user I know that Penguin Liberation Front maintains various up-to-date firmware packages from where the files could be extracted. There are also loads of firmware for download here: http://www.geexbox.org/firmwares/

It should really be easy to add them to linux-restricted-modules in Hardy and after some testing provide a backported package for Gutsy.

This bug may be a showstopper for people that convert to Linux and want to use their TV card. Just as a side note ...

  * nvidia-glx*:
    - When using the nvidia-settings binary for storing
values in xorg.conf it clutters up the file with unneeded settings,
and some are just plain wrong nowadays (the mouse device for
instance). So, don't ship the version included in the drivers, instead
Suggest nvidia-settings -package (again), and fix the issues there.
    - Don't ship nvidia-settings.desktop, only the .png file.
      Nvidia-settings will include the desktop-file.

The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
