Bug Description

usb-imagewriter hasn't been updated since oneiric; it's functionality might have been superseded by usb-creator or other installation methods, or our images might not even need it any more.

It still hard-depends on "hal", which really ought to die. It also pulls in python-gnome2, gksu, python-glade, all of which are APIs which haven't been supported in a long time. So if we still need this for some reason, this needs a thorough modernization.

If we don't need it any more, can we just remove it?

We're still referring to this in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromImgFiles, which we link to from various pages on cdimage.ubuntu.com by way of a redirect at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileTeam/Mobile/HowTo/ImageWriting. If this is to be removed, we should clean up references to it in our documentation first.

i added a comment on the page (its actually the same wikipage just redirecting from two locations) that people using anything >12.10 should use the commandline method ... feel free to remove usb-imagewriter from the archive now
