Some programs open with windows bigger than maximised

Bug Description

I have no clue why, but I can't get some programs, like gaim buddy list, to open
with the windows size that I would want.

Currently it opens full-screen, but not maximised. Slightly bigger. If I press
maximize, it realigns and fits on screen again. Next time I start the program,
it will be slightly bigger again.
Another program that acts this way is Synaptic

This only happens if I exit the program with the window maximised. If it is
exited with a custom window, it will come up with that same window-size.
They just won't come up maximised.

I think that's an app issue, that works fine with gedit. Michael what's your
opinion on this ?

If it's an app issue, it happens in multiple apps.

This bug has be confirmed with Synaptic Package Manager version 0.55+cvs20050224.
When Synaptic is opened the window is too large to fit on screen, and the right
edge goes off-screen a few pixels. Attempts to remedy this by manually resizing
fail; the size cannot be adjusted at all. Maximizing the window gives a correct
window size, but when the program is closed and opened again, it reverts to the
oversized window.

Still do.

Not always tho.

It's pretty eratic

I've rhythmbox in my session, and it always opens with a window slightly bigger
than maximised, then I maximise it (making it smaller) and send it to
notification area.
Next reboot, it'll be bigger again.
It doesn't happen if I close/restart the program.

The same thing happens for Gaim, except that there it also shows up when you
only close/restart the program.

I've seen it with Firefox also, but haven't been able to pin that behavior down
exactly just yet.

Seems to be the same problem, although I don't have any issues with firefox as
he describes. Currently it's only sylpheed for me (which doesn't mean there
might be other ones). But to point this clearly out: The same app on a different
Windowmanager works just fine, just Gnome shows this behavior.

Seb, don't you think that's an issue which each and every has to solve itself -
I can't see this as metacity's problem.

Happens to me with Ubuntu Gutsy installed. It's not very big, but annoying when you change the virtual desktop as the side is 3-5px on the other desktop, so the app will be in the bottom taskbar also

I have two computers, both on gutsy with Compiz effects enabled and they both suffer from this problem in nautlius and synaptic packet manager. It's really quite annoying because the vertical scrollbar on the right is 3-5px slimmer than usual. The screen resolution doesn't seem to have an influence on it.

It does not occur when None is selected in Appearance Preferences --> Visual Effects. It does when Normal or Extra is selected.

That means pretty much exactly that it only happens when you're running compiz, and never when you're running metacity, right?
