After upgrading to Gutsy gnome-system-monitor crashes with:
gnome-system-monitor: symbol lookup error: gnome-system-monitor: undefined symbol: _ZN7pcrecpp2RE4InitEPKcPKNS_10RE_OptionsE

I can confirm this bug. Am running the same kernel.

The tray applet still works here.

Anyone got any clues?

Thank you for your bug. That happens after libpcre3 update, looks like they changed the ABI without changing the soname. Assigning to doko who did upload the new version

pcre3 (7.2-1ubuntu2) gutsy; urgency=low

  * Work around an API change; in 7.0, the signature of
      void RE::Init(const char *pat, const RE_Options* options)
    did change to
      void RE::Init(const string& pat, const RE_Options* options)
    Re-add the old one and let it call the new one. LP: #130428.
