"About Ubuntu" missing Debian attribution

Thanks for your bug report. I dont feel that it warrants its own section because I cannot see a situation where a new user would search the system documentation to find out what Debian is. It could be added to the "What's Linux" section explaining what a fork is and why that's a strength if Linux.

I'm not sure if "About Ubuntu" will be included in the next version of Ubuntu (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/Specs/AboutThisComputer), so let's see how that pans out before working on this.

Haven''t we had this debate several times about the About Ubuntu page and
its reference to Debian? Wasn't there a huge thread on slashdot and also a
massive bug flame on this as well?

I think you probably have the Ubuntu website in mind, rather than the
About Ubuntu page. But there wasn't a bug flame, it was quite a
productive discussion and resulted in this page -

discussion about mentioning Debian in About Ubuntu before, although I
may have forgotten...

Moving bug as per new ubuntu-doc bug policy.

In About Ubuntu, I see a paragraph in the section titled "The Difference" that mentions that Ubuntu is based on Debian and says that we include select packages from their repositories (without actually mentioning the term "repositories"). Is this adequate? Or perhaps we should give a link to Debian's About page [1], or the Ubuntu page mentioned in this report's description [2] somewhere in the Abut Ubuntu document?

I think a link to the ubuntustory/debian page would be great.

Attached is a simple proposed patch for the Karmic branch. I fiddled around with adding extra text to the page, but couldn't quite make it flow without upsetting the rest of the section, so I embedded the link directly in the existing text. I am definitely open to other options if people can think of ways to make the addition of the link flow better. Jorge, if you want more than this as your original report states, please just say so and I'll be happy to explore some more in depth changes.
