Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

This happens on i386 desktop image of ubuntu alpha 4 when choosing the "install ubuntu" alternative from the installation cd.

After choosing manual partitioning I deleted a ntfs partition and ceated a new ext4 partition, I then wanted the partition to be smaller so I choose to resize it.

I expected ubiquity to change the size of the partition I was about to create.

Instead this produces an error message as the ubiquity installer tries to resize an existing partition without it having been created.

To get around this I had to delete my new partition and create a new set of partitions.

Confirmed in ubiquity 1.11.14. Steps to reproduce:
Create an NTFS partition spanning the entire disk using gparted.
Run ubiquity and select advanced partitioning.
Delete the NTFS partition and create an ext4 partition in its place, press OK on the dialog.
Select the partition and hit edit, change the size to a smaller value, press OK.
Ubiquity will now try to run ntfsresize over the ext4 partition.

Changed in ubiquity:
importance: Undecided → High
status: New → Confirmed

I think this is because partman doesn't update its cached information on the partition after committing changes. It should be straightforward to make it do so, but I'll run a few tests with today's daily build first.

This bug was fixed in the package partman-partitioning - 65ubuntu2

---------------
partman-partitioning (65ubuntu2) jaunty; urgency=low

  * When resizing a non-virtual partition, update it after committing
changes, otherwise we might miss a change of filesystem that was just
    committed (LP: #333356).
