Bug Description

Binary package hint: plasma-netbook

When running the plasma netbook shell on my aspire one (after today's update - 0.0~svn1007436-0ubuntu3) all the dialogs are shown with what seems to be a wrong resolution. Text and drop downs extend to the right, way behind the right margin, and buttons aren't shown, apparently below the bottom margin. Scrollbars aren't shown at all. Suspecting a dpi error, I first tried removing .kde on a console then logging in again, setting dpi to 96 in systemconfig, and finally adding "-dpi 96" to the ServerArgsLocal line in kdmrc. Even though these two last allowed me to have the text with a "correct" size, the dialogs are still messed up.
Killing plasma-notebook and launching plasma-desktop the dialogs stay messes up. Until today's update that made plasma-notebook the default shell, the dialogs showed up without any problems at all.

How did you run plasma-netbook before? Today's upload was only a minor
change in the packaging and unlikely to be the culprit.

I didn't - I had kubuntu-netbook installed (I am running karmic lpia) and it was launching plasma-desktop. Today it pulled plasma-netbook and that became the default. So, I had never run plasma-netbook before. As for dialogs being messed up, a better description is that plasma dialogs are "too short", showing the symptoms I described above; non plasma (as the firefox tab mix session manager) show full screen. Applications show full screen, without window decorations.

Switching the windows theme to oxygen "solves" the issue - besides adding window decorations to all applications, dialogs are now the right size, in fact they are the same size but the spacing between items is reduced and they all fit inside the dialog. The preview of the Mid theme in systemsettings just shows empty, so probably something went wrong generating the plasma-netbook package for lpia.

Just installed version 0.0~svn1007436-0ubuntu4, and the Mid theme has disappeared. The netbook theme shows the same problems, though.

The mid theme was a leftover. We have some work yet to do on this and Rod is looking into it.

This bug was fixed in the package plasma-netbook - 0.0~svn1016996-0ubuntu2

---------------
plasma-netbook (0.0~svn1016996-0ubuntu2) karmic; urgency=low

  * Add debian/patches and debian/patches/series
  * Add debian/patches/kubuntu_01_appswitcher4.3.patch to make the application
    switcher not need KDE 4.4 (LP: #413128)
  * Add debian/patchs/kubuntu_02_no_windeco.patch to drop the Netbook windeco
    - It is going to need KDE 4.4 (LP: #420559, #412168)
