Bug Description

using xchat-gnome 0.13 on edgy, when someone types "/me does something", you only see
"* nick" and not "* nick does something". This is an translation issue which has to be corrected, see the following strings in xchat-gnome, there are some of them which don't seem correct:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/dapper/+source/xchat-gnome/+pots/xchat-gnome/de/+translate?show=all&start=392

These are 10-20 strings which are not correct, here is an example:
-%C10-%C11-%O$tDCC $1 %C11$2 %Cto %C11$3 %Ctimed out - aborting.
translated to:
%C22*%O$tDCC $1%C26 $2 %Oan%C26 $3%O: Zeitüberschreitung - Abbruch.
-%C10-%C11-%O$tDCC $1 %C11$2 %Can %C11$3 %C: Zeitüberschreitung - Abbruch.

and
-%C10-%C11-%O$tConnection failed. Error: $1
translated to
%C21*%O$t%C21Verbindung gescheitert. Fehler: $1

I cannot mark them as need review unfortunately, but it took me ten minutes to find all strings in textevents.h which look suspicious, it is not really that hard.

Could you change the upstream translation too please ?

This has not been fixed with the 1:6.10+20060924 release (which according to the date should contain the fix), and now I wonder if that is correct. But generating the .mo file from the de.po file downloaded with apt-get source xchat-gnome works correctly.

So I guess that's just another lang-pack update?

You can check this by using the daily language packs:

Again, this has not been fixed with the latest update to 1:6.10+20061011, so I'm still wondering why this was not in this update?

It should be fixed in HEAD but not yet in the Ubuntu package.
Could you test HEAD version please?

Martin Bergner (martin-bergner) wrote :

Oh, to make that clear: This is indeed fixed with the HEAD version, but the de.po file is supposed to be shipped by language-pack-gnome-de, and so I don't understand why it was not shipped in the latest update. Replacing the de.po file with the one from the xchat-gnome source package makes the problem go away.

Indeed.
Guys from German translation team, could you try to fix this please ?

The de packages from
http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/langpacks/daily/edgy-updates/
don't fix this, as they don't even include xchat-gnome.mo at all. Maybe this bug should be reopened.

Honestly, look at the date of the bug, I have actually given up on this one, I will now reopen it and I will make sure that it will never be closed until it works!

Also occurs to me with ru_RU.UTF-8. Launching in English with "LANG=C xchat-gnome" fixes the problem.
