Chromium 128.0.6613.137 builds (latest stable release) for Xenial & newer.

UPDATE (7 Aug 2024): Another week of effort and all new Rust-related build failures (new binaries requiring linking with lld) are now fixed for v127.

UPDATE (2 Feb 2024): After a week of effort finally resolved Rust-related build failures (linking failures when using ld rather than lld) for v121.

UPDATE (17 May 2023): Finally resolved all build failures for v113 on all series except 16.04 Xenial (which will take more work due old libc 2.23).

*** Install ***

These builds require PipeWire >= 0.3.1 which is available at the PipeWire PPA (only PipeWire & ten dependencies or important related packages), the FFmpeg 4 PPA (FFmpeg 4.4.5 & many dependencies/related packages), and also the Multimedia PPA (ppa:savoury1/multimedia). Simplest steps for install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1/pipewire
  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1/chromium
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get install chromium-browser

OR you can replace ppa:savoury1/pipewire with ppa:savoury1/ffmpeg4 and/or ppa:savoury1/multimedia if you want more upgrades than only new PipeWire.

Updated DRM (2.4.122), GLVND (1.7.0), and Mesa (24.0.9) are at the display PPA. For these upgrades add the next command to the top of the list above:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1/display

Note that the display PPA makes changes to critical parts of the system so as always make sure to do a full backup first, before doing the upgrades!
