GNOME Activity Journal (formerly known as GNOME Zeitgeist) is a tool for easily browsing and finding files on your computer. It keeps a chronological journal of all file activity and supports tagging and establishing relationships between groups of files.

TRYING IT OUT
----------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE:
For Debian/Ubuntu users, GNOME Activity Journal is available in the distribution's repository (that is, you can install it using Software Center), and we also provide a PPA with (possibly) newer versions: https://launchpad.net/~zeitgeist/+archive/ppa.
The instructions below are for adventurous users and developers wanting to try out the current development release:

To download it:
mkdir ~/zeitgeist; cd ~/zeitgeist
bzr get lp:zeitgeist; bzr get lp:gnome-activity-journal

You'll also need to compile Zeitgeist:
cd ~/zeitgeist/zeitgeist; ./autogen.sh; make

Now to start it:
~/zeitgeist/zeitgeist/zeitgeist-daemon.py &
~/zeitgeist/gnome-activity-journal/gnome-activity-journal

Finally, to update it when there are new changes:
cd ~/zeitgeist/zeitgeist; bzr pull
cd ~/zeitgeist/gnome-activity-journal; bzr pull
